Calling All Oat Bran-Ers!

I <3 today. and YOU!

this is what my front door looks like right now..

thanks Deej!

Do you ever have those days where you wake up and you think it could be an off day. But then you just decide somewhere along the lines that it doesn't have to be and whatever was going on is just really not that serious. Well today is one of those days and I made it good.

holla at cha girl.

I woke up this morning and laid in bed for about 8 minutes thinking that I really don't want to get out. I didn't wear socks to bed and I knew it was a mistake not to. Eventually I convinced myself that Wednesday spin only happens once a week and I'd be sad if I didn't make it there. ...plus the EC aspect of the gym is always a good reason to go ;)

SO I get to spin, put my water bottle on my favorite bike and got my HRM set. I run to the bathroom, come back, mount my bike, put my feet in the straps, and TEAR.

My favorite bike's footstrap rips. now a LOT of you are probably like get over it Julie. But hang with me. It's 6AM, I woke up for spin, there is ONE bike left that is broken, and I just broke my favorite bike. ugh. NOW I could have ran out crying, drove home and sulked my way through Wednesday.

instead I realized. working out is supposed to be fun. fun. So what's a girl to do? ride the half broken bike duh! I had such a great class and even though the pedal on the other bike was half broken and kind of unmanageable, I just made the best of it because hey it's just not that serious.

then I threw some weights around, got creeped on in an unavoidable situation by definitely NOT the guy in the gym I want to creep on me and went home to enjoy an unrealistically delicious breakfast.

3 sets 10 assisted chin ups (90lbs)
4 sets 12 bent over flys (5lb dumbbells)
3 sets 12 seated suspine hammer curls (10lb dumbbells)
3 sets 15 vrope pullback (65lbs)
enter unavoidable creep attack and grossly awkward handshake
3 sets 12 bicep curls (12lb dumbbells -- 15lbs was too heavy today!)
3 sets 12 bent over rows (30lb bodybar)
3 sets 15 stability ball back extension (bodyweight)

holy cow what's in there..

1 Gala apple nuked with cinnamon, stevia & USVAB
1/2c Kashi Krunch
2tbsp Nature's Path Pumpkn Flax Plus Granola (um yum!)

& a poooool of PB2 love AND coffeex2.

oh. my. effing. gawd.
this was almost TOO good to be true. And I think I shed a tear when the bowl was over.

Then I hopped along to work, saw a client who put me in an even MORE fabulous mood because she made ginormous progress this week and then I hit up my home away from home to replenish some of the old goods.

the loot:

  • broccoli slaw x2
  • whole wheat english muffins
  • Roasted Garlic humdiddy
  • Almond Breeze
  • Better N Peanut Butter
  • Low Sodium Organic Butternut Squash Soup (never had and VERY excited to try!)
  • TJs Wintry Blend coffee (also a newbie that I'm pumped to try)
  • and the banger of all the goods...OAT BRAN!!!
CALLING ALL OAT BRAN-ERS!
I need your help! I literally picked up and put this back about 5 times today. It came with no instructions and so now I need your help. All of you oat bran bloggies TEACH ME! I'll love you forever!

Shopping sure does make a girl hungry. especially when it involves food. Ergo my belly was MORE then ready for lunch.

Another meal in a bowl? or two. sure, why not!

In the bowl to your left we have:
1/2c cottage cheese, broccoli slaw, red & green peppers, yellow zuchinni, a few slices of Lightlife Pepperoni, 2TBSP TJs Garlic hummus & a droppage of Santa Barbs babes.

In the bowl to your right we have:
homemade zuke & kale chips, AND homemade pita chips!

dang how I love meals in a bowl.

well I'm off for some extra spesh reading, maybe some yoga & I forsee an apple in my near future.

I've got work tonight and the home to watch the Yankees spankee :) Hope you have a wonderous Wednesday!

Your front door looks lame....I'm just saying ;) Just kidding! I think its awesome that ya'll are showing so much team spirit- that rocks! Way to make lemonade girl! And what a delicious looking lunch. I make really yummy oat bran cookies (recipe on my blog). For just regular cooking- I do pretty much the same thing as what I do with oats. Hope the rest of your day goes well!!

I love oat bran!

These actually cook on the stove a lot faster than oats, like 1 minute (after reaching a boil and reducing heat to medium) as opposed to 5. Same with microwaving, it should only take 1-2 minutes.

Depending on your preferences, a serving of oat bran is 1/3 cup and you usually want 1 cup of liquid (less if you want it thicker). I usually do less, like 1/3 cup oat bran and 2/3 cup water.

Good luck!

homemade zuke & kale chips AND a TJ's re-stashing run? nice.

Im sure I should know this....but when you said training a client, are you a personal trainer? I am an unemployed at the moment yoga teacher. Moved to Phoenix 9 weeks ago and need to find a studio, just havent gotten there yet.

Assuming you are a trainer, would love to chat with you girl about it! How long, do you like it, etc!

WOW Jules, you are a real trooper. I have definitely been there – forcing myself to get to a class in the morning and then realizing my favorite teacher isn’t there and the substitute sucks. Hahah I guess it isn’t as bad as my favorite bike breaking, but I think you dealt with it super well!

In terms of oatbran, I make the same way as my oatmeal, except I put more water in to it and don’t add any protein powder cuz I feel like it sits like a brick in my stomach. I do ½ cup bran, ½ cup hot water, microwave for 30 seconds. And then I add more water and stir it so it’s not a thick mess (unless you like it that way!), then I put in the toppings, cold yogurt, frozen fruit, nut butter….all the works. So that’s my cheaters way of making oatbran! Hope it helps!

Great attitude during spin!

Oat bran is easy. 1 cup liquid, 1/3 cup oat bran. I find that whisking it in works best. Unless you like clumps, of course!!

No instructions??? Yikes. Ok well the oat bran I eat is Hogsdon Mills. I measure 1/4 cup of it and put it in a LARGE bowl, then pour 1 cup of cold water and a DASH of salt into the bowl. The I heat it in the microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds, then stir, then another minute and 30 seconds, then stir, then another minute. Then mix my favorite mix-ins and enjoy!

oh pooks here's the dealio (that I use for my Obran at least) use double the amount of liquid that you use for the oatbran (i.e. use half up liquid, 1 cup water) allow liquid to boil on the stovetop (vanilla almond milk is le best!) then add the oat bran, stir that bebe up pretty consistently so it doesnt stick to the pot (mom always yells at me for that) put in your fav bowl and add lots of yummy goodies :)

I also got tons of oat bran help when I lost my oat bran virginity -- check the comments hurr:

May I suggest topping your brany breakfast with some PB2 and carob/chocolate chips?! It's delish! Glad your client made progress!! That's always satisfying for both of you!

GOOD FOR YOU getting up every a.m. to get a workout in before work especially when you get that feeling creeping in saying "I reallyyy just don't want to go..." You always seem to be able to stay positive (even when 1/2 asleep) and get yourself going & thats awesome! :)

Yummm that breakfast is looking mightyyy fine...

Hope you're having a good week girl! :)

Congrats on the win! I'd rather have seen the Cubs there but that wasn't going to happen this year.
Great job on the workout! Way to be motivated!

With oat bran you need A LOT more water than you ned with regular oats. I usually use say 1/3 cup bran and 1 cup water, or 1/2 cup bran and 1.5 cups water. The more water, the creamier and more voluminous it will get!

It's so hard to have a good attitude on an off day, but you seem to have that down! Sorry about the bike, though...uggggh!
