bloggie blind date!

monday funday!

haha i know now you want to punch me. monday’s for the most part are not fun days. especially after fun weekends.

how can you compare the first day of the workweek to a fun weekend? well the answer is simple. you can’t

well besides for pre workout snacks, stellar workouts & even more fabulous breakfasts this day will just be another boring old moaaanday.

saturday night i had the privilege of meeting up with some of the most fun and fabulous foodies that new york has to offer. a handful of us decided to voyage on to the infamous blogger blind date and we met up at 5 burro cafe, which is a mexican hot spot in queens.

i felt like meg ryan in you’ve got mail. should have brought a rose or pride & prejudice.

instead i just looked for the group of girls waiting at the bar patiently for my late butt. i was pleasantly greeted by these fabo women monique from Food Snob, missy from Missy Maintains, dawn from Dawn Dishes It Out, jen from Pieces of Me, joanne from Eats Well With Others, mari from Namaste Mari, and sarah from Mom on the Run.

i felt like we had so much to talk about. and we gossiped and gabbed the night away. of course there were lots of pictures and lots of good eats.

drinks & food & fun filled the small delicious mexican restaurant and the little blind date wasn’t so scary anymore.

not to mention the food was delicious! most of the ladies got the sizzlin fajitas but i was in a shrimpy & salsa mood so i went with the mexican ensalada sans the dressing and drowned my meal in their needs to be slightly spicier salsa.

P1303061 P1303065

it was glorious! i’m pretty sure i would go back just for the rockin shrimpies. they were honkin huge and grilled to perfection.

041_thumb1 after dinner we manned up and trekked over to the lite choice. we were ballers and they offered to stay open an extra hour so we could “indulge” in some guilt free free ice cream!

P1303068 P1303071 P1303069

there were a ridiculous amount of flavors to choose from and the best part was that you can choose whatever flavor you want at anytime!

i was a snoozefest and went with mint chocolate chip. but it was friggn good.

P1303077 thank you so much tlc! it was the sweetest ending to the perfect night!

the fun was beyond and i can’t wait for more hangouts & delicious food with fabo ladiez. thanks girls!!

sunday was filled with a little bit of gym action, a whole lotta snackage & a lotta little bit of nuttin.

for the record april’s sweet bread is amaze. make it now or else.

today i woke up rearin and ready to go. i hopped out of bed as soon as my alarm clock went off. dressed myself for spinnage, had a yogurt for some fuel & was out zee door at an usual upbeat mode.

  • bicep curls 4 sets 12 (15lb dumbbells) superseded with bent over reverse flys 4 sets 15 (5lb dumbbells)
  • incline hammer curls 4 sets 12 (10lb dumbbells) superseded with bench superman 4 sets 15 (bodyweight)
  • high reverse grip pulldown
20lbs each side 15 reps
25lbs each side 12 reps
30lbs each side 10 reps
35lbs each side 8 reps
40lbs each side 8 reps
  • pilates bicep curls 3 sets 25 (5lb dumbbells) superseded with bent over kettlebell rows 3 sets 12 (10lb kettlebells)

when i came home i knew exactly what i was feigning for for breakfast.

warm-a-licious oatiez (i’m all about the z’s today. k over it)

P1313095 P1313098

1/3c oatbran cooked with cinnamon, stevia & 1/2 small banana. added on top 1 container oikos plain & drizzled 1tbsp better n peanut butts.

par.fec.tion.

alright well i’ve got to get into today and then i’ve got a random class later tonight :)

opinions wanted: currently i have a membership to my local gym. it costs me $35 a month but with my new job that i will be at mon, wed & friday 9-5 it’s going to take me an hour and a half to two hours (yes that’s right) to commmute there in the morning. which probably means i won’t be able to hit the gym before work. i suck at working out later in the day so i’m thinking i might get a membership to new york sports club but its about $95 for the all access pass. there are about 4-5 nysc locations near my office so if i left early in the morning i could beat the traffic, work out & be 10 minutes from work which equals less parkway stress & happy julie for getting workout in. there are also a few nysc locations near me that i would workout at the days i don’t have work. is it worth the money? it would reduce my traffic and late stress as well as i would still be able to get a workout in before work and then be able to come home and do homework and not feel stressed about working out or being exhausted from work.

mmmm what do you think?

whoa this was long. thanks for making it through.

have you ever been on a blogger blind date? with who and how’d it go?

p.s. check out snackface's birthday giveaway!

Looks like a fun meet-up! I haven't tried The Lite Choice yet - do you like it better than tasti-d-lite? I used to frequent them, but then realized that it's just way too sugary and I'd always crave something salty afterwards (defeating the purpose of light soft serve!).

I have been going to NYSC for just over 5 years. Some gyms are better than others (ours not so great) and they are definitely convenient. It sounds like you enjoy yoga classes and such, and there are a ton of classes available at different gyms, so if you're going to be able to use multiple gyms, it might be okay, but if not, you might want to check out a Gold's Gym or Club H, if there are any in the right locations for you. I think they're a bit cheaper.

Good luck! Let me know when you do another NYC meet-up. I'd love to join!

I had such a fabulous time! I think you were so amazing and gorg! You can seriously be a model! And a funny one =)

I can't wait for the next meetup!

Have I ever been on a blogger blind date? Yes and it was amazing :) I would say NYSC is worth it. It will be so much less stressful for you for just 60 more a month. I used to be a member of Lucille's but they closed so early on weekends and there was only 1 location and to me. NYSC is def. worth it to me.

gah i want to come to the next blind blogfest. that sounded weird.

i think the nysc is definitely worth the investment if it's going to (a) make yo life easier and (b) make going to the gym more enjoyable. if going to the gym becomes a dreaded task, you're probably not going to utilize that $35 membership. you should go into the nysc and let them know your sitch. they are really big on comping week or 2 week trials. test it out and see if it fits into your new sched.

i dont know why i just spoke with such authority on the subject of gyms. i've been averaging 1 visit/week since nyc decided to become an arctic abyss. so maybe listen to someone else haha

Glad your meet up went well. I am super jealous of all the good eats you all had, especially the TLC. As for the gym dilema, I am a firm believer in paying for convenience if it won't put you on your butt. If you can afford the splurge, to me it is worth it. I am guessing the job is paid which means a little more money, and the flexibility can't be beat if there are multiple locations. Make sure you have checked into all options and looked for current deals before deciding on anything. The other thing is to give the current gym a chance and then change if you find after the first week or 2 that it is just too much.

I had such a great time :)

Good luck with the gym decision. That is a tough one.

ah! What a fun meet up! The food looks great and the company EVEN better! Jealous..so jealous! I would join NYSC. I think the convenience is worth it. I used to work out at Boston Sports Club (when I lived up there) and it rocked. Have a great day!

OH SNAP! YOU WAS LATE?! I would've left yo' ass! I kid, I kid. I just probably would've been drunk by the time you got there.

I love shrimpie salads and really really wish I had a TLC near me :(

Hmm the gym question is a toughie...you'd be spending $60 more for the gym each month, plus spending more on gas, and having your car tuned up more frequently because of the longer commute. Buuut, I assume you will be making more money at your new job so if you have the money and don't mind the extra expences I say go for it.
Can you pay for the year up front and ask your parents to give it to you for an early (or late) bday present?

You are a lot like me, and when I don't workout in the morning I am constantly thinking about how I can fit it in at night. Therefore I get side-tracked and down think straight (it's a serious problem....). Therefore in my opinion, if you can afford the new club, it's worth it. That way you don't have to stress about getting your workout in!

Glad you had a nice night out with the girls! I'm going to come to one of those one day :)

That commute sounds brutal...I'm sorry. I think you should go with the more convenient gym. It's all about convenience when it comes to working out, I think.

Haha, love how you're all eating fro-yo in your parkas!
I had a bloggie blind date with EatingBender and Mara from What's for Dinner? It went swimmingly, I think:)

Hi Julie! I'm new to your bloggie :)
I heard about you from all the other girls at the meetup who are my blogland friends. Hopefully I'll be able to make the next get together.

Happy to have discovered your blog!

What a fun evening! Especially when it ends at TLC...

I've gone on several BBDs... never a bad one!

Ok so I love the bloggie meetup pics and commented on Mari's site that they rock. You look sassy n gorg!

And this:
we were ballers and they offered to stay open an extra hour so we could “indulge” in some guilt free free ice cream!
That's pretty stellar!!!

And no, AZ will not be our forever place, actually trying to get back to So Cal pronto :)

And the gym thing. I'd ask for a 1 mo trial pass for the new club or some sort of discount b/c if you end up not liking it or it not working out then at least it was a low or reduced cost trial thing. Dont get sucked into a bennie a month $ til you know you love it :)

Ashley and Bo said...

Where is your new job? I absolutely love Equinox and actually belonged to NYSC last year. Some gyms are better than others. I'd get a month trial wherever you go so you can see if working out and working is realistic.

Hey Julie, had so much fun saturday!!! You are so funny!

As for the gym, I am all about convenience. If something creates less stress in your life, it is priceless! Go where ever there is less stress. Working out should be fun ... shouldn't it?!? I think ...

i've never been on a blind date! omg that blogger meet up looks like so much fun :) yayy... and i think that gym might be worth it if it iwll help you with convenience?

jess (Fit Chick in the City) said...

Looks like you guys had fun at the blogger meet-up! I totally think that NYSC will make your life easier even if it is a lot more than what your paying right now. Like others have said you can print out a one week trial pass online to try it out if you haven't already.

Ah I'm jealous of your date!!

And I love how you threaten everyone with my bread! I got your back :D lol!

Erin @ Big Girl Eats said...

1) Blogger meetups look SO fun! I'm jealous

2) I have major love for calling them "biceptuals" now. Omg, hilarious.

3) I think it's worth the money if you can afford it because convenience will really make your life less crazed - plus you're a girl who uses the gym every day, so it's not like you'd be wasting money for something you didn't use. And I heard a really good tip from somewhere that if you spend more in one area, you should just cut back in other areas (so maybe figure out where in your budget you can have some wiggle room?) Speaking of which, I need to find my budget...

Congrats on the new job, ps!
