yesterday at work my coworker was walking around with a cup full of blackberries. i stole one from her and it reminded me how much i really do love them. i popped another one in my mouth and dreams of blackberries haunted me the rest of the day.
last night on my way home from work as per mentioned i stopped at the local grocers to get eggs. what i didn’t mention was that of course eggs were not the only thing i picked up. well the blackberry gods must have read my mind because they were on sale for $.99 a pop.
score!
after seeing erica parfait it up every weekend i knew the only way to celebrate the end of d-free week was to parfait it up.
blackberries batteries not included.
go big or go home right?
as i built my blackberry parfait, van comes into the kitchen. he looks at my creation and goes “holy crap take a friggin picture of that”
van. you bet your bottom dollar i will.
don’t drool! you can make one too :) 1 cup fage greek yogurt, 1 1/3c puffed wheat cereal, 3oz fresh blackberries & 1/2tbsp naturally more. layer to your liking and voila!
this baby clocks in at: 325 calories, 3.2g fat, 47g carbs, 29g protein.
you best believe i’ll be clearing house on those blackberries the next time i’m in the grocers. aka today?
prior to my beautiful breakfast i hit the gym this morning for some light cardio + chest & triceps action.
i actually used a new cardio machine today! it looked somewhat like a spaceship and the foot holders looked like moon shoes. it’s actually called the precor amt & you can find some fun information about it here.
it looked like this (minus the cool tv because $30 bucks a month gym membership does not get you personal tvs in your cardio machines around here)
i did 40 minutes at resistance 10 on this guy and gotta say it was awkward at first but i didn’t hate it!
chest & triceps
- alternating sets: barbell chest press (3 sets 12) 30lbs & tricep dumbbell skull crushers (3 sets 12) 15lbs. i also kept my feet in the air to engage my core during the chest press.
- alternating sets: twisting standing chest press (3 sets 12) 25lbs & tricep dips (3 sets 15) bodyweight
- alternating sets: overhead vrope tricep extension (3 sets 12) 35lbs & bench pushups (3 sets 15) bodyweight
- pectoral press machine 4 sets
| 12 reps | 35lbs |
| 10 reps | 37.5lbs |
| 8 reps | 42.5lbs |
| 6 reps | 45lbs |
gah! i was tired when this was all doneskies!
i spent the rest of the morning slash mid morning doing some work on the computer, making deejy breakfast & washing my hur. oh the stressful life.
whilest doing my blog creepin thang i came across naomi’s tuna melt. i immediately knew what was on zee menu for zee lunch.
i mixed up a 2.7oz can of tuna with spicy dijon mustard, 1tbsp fage 0%, garlic powder & pepper. slapped it in a joseph’s lavish wrap with a laughing cow, some tomaters & spinach and sprinkled a healthy dosage of nutritional yeast on top. let it get all melty on a pan and called it a day.
naturally i had a “side salad” of roasted veggiez (eggplants, shrooms, b sprouts & zukes)
all togetha now!
with a tablespoon of trader joes regular hummus on the side it was a meal fit for a king queen
food baby and all it was time to get to work. i put my game face on and pounded out 86.5% of one of my final essays. only stopping for ladies room, drink, & eventually mid afternoon snack time.
mr. softee?
or as we new yawkers like to say. “cawfee ice cream”
aka: 3/4c chilled decaf coffee, 1tbsp mrm metabolic whey protein powder, 5-6 ice cubes, stevia & cinnamon, 1/2tsp each guar & xanthum gumz. parfait-ed out with 1/2c puffed wheat & 2tsp of unsweetened cocoa powder for dustage.
eventually deej summoned me and we needed to do the usual costco thang a rang. i agreed under one condition.
we hit up the best diner on long island.
and she agreed. mom’s are the best, no?
we started with the ever so fancy pants pickles appetizer.
i’ve got a pickle, i’ve got a pickle, i’ve got a pickle. hey hey hey hey!
the second course came in the usual hasty diner style pace & enjoyed an omelet for the second night in a row.
i got the vegetarian omelet with egg whites & lettuce and tomatoes instead of home fries with a side of very expensive steamed broccoli.
the broccoli averaged out to be about a dollar a stalk.
rip. off. i shoulda known.
alright beauties i’ve got an appointment with my pillow and an early morning lower body workout! gotta get my gadunk or lack there of in ship shape for summer! ya hurd?
side note: the two flirters from the gym are so getting their workout on outside of the gym. she was wearing teensy spandex today and they were sharing flirtatious words by the rack of barbells.

For brunch tomorrow with a friend, brunch Sunday with Josh's family, Breakfast Thursday with Josh's brother and sister. Oh yes- parafaits allll around my friends. And I love that you got your lunch idea from Naomi. Food Bloggy world is so inspiring! Cawfee ice cream? Now this is something I need to try!
ReplyDeleteI love all berries- I can't pick a favorite. Josh's favorite is blackberries.
Traditional diners- I like to get egg white omelets as well. And for lunch- I also love their greek salads (sans olives- ick!)
Beware of that machine! I swear it is what gave me my inferior pubic ramus stress fracture. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteThe other day I brought home a box of blackberries from whole foods. And they were gone within an hour. It was glorious.
Ha that machine looks like a 2010 version of the gazelle!!!! Was Tony Little on it too? ha
ReplyDeleteHEY GIRL!!! i am loving your parfaits! and freshness on this post!! ahh! i LOVE Blackberries!
ReplyDeleteBlackberries followed by strawberries. Hate blueberries actually...
ReplyDeleteI love me some BIG parfait action, especially if it involves blackberries!
ReplyDeleteThis post has me excited to go blackberry picking in a few weeks:)
I'm a big fan of berry medleys. As in not just blackberries, strawberries or raspberries but really all kinds of berries that are combined for a berry utopia. They really work well together.
ReplyDeleteLOVE blackberries, that's not even a question. I have to say that strawberries own my heart though. Any kind of berry is delicious.
ReplyDeleteI've seen those machines at my gym and attempted to use it once...I couldn't figure it out. Embarassing, so I just casually moved onto an elliptical. I really want to try it out though!!
Go to accessories are pearl earrings, my class ring and one of two necklaces that my dad and BF gave me. I'm a simple girl!!
Hope you have a wonderful Friday love!! xoxo
I used one of those a couple of months ago. It took a bit of getting used to but it does kick your butt. I liked using it as a stepper.
ReplyDeleteYou stumped me...I love ALL berries!
Hee hee...love the pickle jingle. I do that when we get the green arrow, we got the light, we got the light, we got the light, hey hey hey hey!
My gym just got those machines last week! I tried it once...kind of a cross between elliptical and stepper? I am not sure I love it. Mainly because I see people on them and they look like they are walking on a the moon.
ReplyDeleteYour parfait looks amazing! I can never get good photos of mine...
want your lunch SO badly...like, seriously, send me some.
1. do you like blackberries? or raspberries? strawberries? what’s your favorite “berry”? blueberries!
2. what’s your go-to diner order? at MY diner, chicken and feta wrap, salad instead of fries, no dressing but a bowl of tzatziki...any other diner is usually something really exciting like a turkey sandwich on wholewheat bread, or grilled chicken.
good luck on the last studying..my gawd it feels like school should have been out about 2 mos ago! LOL
ReplyDeletelove berries of all kinds BUT i am cheap and refuse to pay $4 bucks for a little thing that is like one handful. so whatever is cheap, i eat :)
go to order...never go out :)
my fave accessory is my rolex that i bought in a former lifetime :)
between you and naomi, i NEED tuna melty in my life!
ReplyDeleteI just bought blackberries 2 nights ago! I thought 2 for 5.00 was a good deal. Now I guess not haha. They are still sour so I guess I have to be patient to eat them. My fav. is probably strawberries though. I always get exactly what you got at a diner!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE berries, and I love parfaits! Once I open a package I pretty much eat it in one sitting. Raspberries, blubes, strawbs, you name it!
At the diner I always get egg whites with spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms and feta. With wheat toast.
you little blackberry klepto! I'm totally telling ;) Van sounds like such a foodie -- yo! get him to start up a bloggie. Perhaps entitled "I have the world's raddest daughter". I'd totally add him to my google reader ;)

ReplyDeleteI love blackberries, love love love. They've been on sale lately too, which is awesome.
Pickles are nice too, with blackberries. no, jk.
You made my day with the info about beer being a superfood! I'm one healthy chica!
Ooohh, thank you for the AMT info!! There's one at my mom's gym and I hopped on it one day, got weirded out, and was off in 30 seconds :P Now that I know it's purpose, I'll have to give it a second try.
ReplyDeleteI could have berries every single day and not get tired of them. I'm such a strawberry girl.
ReplyDeleteHmm..probably a big salad or hummus wrap. Yum.
I love big earings!
I tried that cardio machine before too. It was too weird for me, not quite an elliptical but not a stairmaster either. Haha. I bet its a good work out though. I'm pretty sure I got off of it because it was too hard for me.
ReplyDeleteI love allll berries. No discrimination. I think maybe...blueberries are my fav though (if they are fresh).
If I could...I'd have a whole foods salad bar for dinner everyday!! If only my bank account allowed for that. I had a $15 salad yesterday. FML.
Your blog is sooo great Julie-so informative. Frozen and Dried Blueberries are my fav! I am also a fan of the Kashi Blueberry cereal. Most importantly thank you for supporting my website, www.krystalrae.com! Lauren is such an awesome connector. Hope to meet you in person one day.
