long time no? i’m in and out this week because it’s the last week of school and yesterday i clocked in a solid 13 hour workday. and if you’re wondering if i went to spin this morning? you bet your tuckus i did ;)
this year we did the 10k.
but. we did enjoy the 5k this past weekend :)
here’s a picture/map of shelter island so you can see what it’s all about. cause i know you were wondering ;)
so our summer cottage (where you always see the gawjy pictures from) is located right where you see the word southold (in the pink part of long island on the left) and the race was on the yellow part.
capeesh? great! let’s carry on.
after grabbing some breakfast and lunch not simultaneously, driving out east from my house (which is much further to the left on the pink part of the map, off the map to be exact) and hanging with my buds for a few deej and i geared up and got ready to head to the island
the other island.
obviously we needed some pre race fuel
hot american. cold bottle of water. i think all 5k walking stars should consider this as proper race fueling.
we eventually made our way down to the ferry, got our tokens, and continued en route to our destination
please refer to the map to see we why we were island hopping all day
striking golean poses the whole way cross the bay
is deej not amped or what!
check out the other racers in the background. only difference? they were running the 10k. we were strolling the 5k. they were good at taking photos though!
the race organized school buses to transport racers from the ferry to the race site. deej scored us a front row seat on the magic school bus and we were off!
last year we made the grave mistake of arriving to the site very early. almost too early?
this year you think we would have fixed that mistake right?
we arrived at the site about an hour and a half before the race started. now this would have been fine if the humidity was at 110%. so we picked up our race packets, used the portable ladies room and found a nice spot to hang at until it was time to start the walk.
we wore our blazin yellow “i’m a 5k walker” race gear and entertained ourselves in the hot hot sun while creepin on all of the good looking young men who were wearing their “i’m a 10k runner” white race badges.
and all this time i’d been wondering where they were keeping the good looking wedding bandless men..
apparently i’ve been looking on the wrong island.
apparently my company wasn’t good enough for deej because at some point she started bbming jenna.
time ticked on and eventually they called the 10k-ers to line up and get ready to sweat. they had us 5k walkers start 10 minutes later then the runners which i was excited about because i was able to catch the start of the race
warming up & getting ready.
not us. we posed. obvi.
if you’re wondering if we walked with our race bags the whole time? well you would be correct.
if you’re wondering if it was a ridiculously bad idea to wear long leggings on a ridiculously hot day? well you would be correct.
and if you’re wondering if sitting in the sun was a bad choice right before walking 3+ miles? well you would be absoeffinglutly on the money correct.
if you’re wondering if the race was fun?
you. bet. your. bottom. dollar.
but then again what’s more fun then racing with your hot mama & enjoying sangrias with the spanish & sangria with the fam as a post-race pape party ;)
i’ll post the moh speech video tomorrow!
if you could run/walk a race with anyone in the world who would it be?
