ha. so for all the newbies out there hey now! come out from the closet! i love it when you do ;) weird julie. weird.
anyways every friday i’ve gotten into this thang where i call it “conclusions friday” it’s also known as a copout post so i don’t have to get all paragraphy. ya feel me..
i think this is my 4th or 5th conclusions friday. shall i continue on with the tradish?
1.combining two cheeses also known as laughing cow & cottage cheese is awesome. melting them is genius.
2. i love new york. hearing jay z’s “new york state of mind” on the radio every 4 seconds makes me not want to love it
3. sometimes when bars are on sale for a buck a piece
it’s because they suck there’s a reason.
pure protein strawberry shortcake: this bar was on sale for $1 at the foodstore so i picked it up. major mistake. it’s not strawberry shortcake. it’s more like strawberry jam smooshed into weird white crackly frosting. the nutrition stats weren’t so bad but about 2 hours after eating it i was hungry! it’s not good for bar breaking and should not be classified under the “cake” category. i’m mad i bought two. i would definitely not buy this bar again. well unless it was free..
4. i have an addition to buying things on netrition.com

5. carbs are amazing. especially when they’re consumed with cinnamon either before bed or before the gym.
6. i will never stop talking about my love for popcorn. and i will not apologize for it.
7. i feel dirty using the good girl/bag girl hip abductor machines at the gym especially in between sets when you’re just sitting there if you know what i mean..

helllo lovaz (sex and the city anyone?)
sex and the city is like my all time favorite show in life. i actually started watching it with deej (yes my mom) way back in the day. and we were satc-aholics. i truly believe that anything you need to learn or know in life you can learn in the six seasons. not including the movie. don’t ask my opinion on that.
you’re right. $87 bucks for finger printing is ridonk but i guess that’s the going rate around these parts to certify that you’re not a loon.
after emptying my wallet yesterday my poor booty
did not order anything on netrition.com but instead made some lunchies. when in doubt eat, right?
and who needs a tanning bed when you’ve got carrots & pumpkin as daily cast members in your life..
i spent the day doing my errands and mentally preparing myself to get back into school mode.

i also did my weekly research on what food stores had greek yogurt on sale. $1 a pop for brown cow at king kullen if anyone’s curious..
eventually it was time for dinner before heading out to work.

i simply sauteed up a buttload of broccoli slaw, some red & green peppers, spinach, 1/2c cannellini beans, & a seriously good amount of leftover tilapia in a pan with about 2 tablespoons of homemade red sauce and a teeny bit of water. then i just emptied it in a bowl, threw some laughing cow on top and a little drizzleage of tjs goddess.
it was um…interesting? let’s just say it did the job. didn’t hate it and it was fast, easy and hey in my book anything that involves tilapia and laughing cow is a winner.
when i got to work i sadly had to break up with many of my clients. i love them! well some. and was happy when some of them were able to stay for saturdays. saturdays will be the only day that i’ll keep clients. mon, wed & fri i’ll be interning and tues/thurs i’ll be at school.
popcorn was consumed when i got home and shortly there after i attempted to hit they haysackle.
i had a fight with my alarm this morning but eventually made it up and at ‘em to hit the gym

as soon as i got home i whipped up a little new breakfast combo. no waiting. i hit the pan hard even with my coat on.
warm yogurt oats have been an inspiration via janEtha ;) so i decided to dabble today
in the bowl went: 1/2c oats cooked in 1c water with cinnamon&stevia, 1 container plain oikos, 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder & 2tbsp goji berries
i found the little goji berries hiding in my cabinet. woo hoo for surprises!
looks like an ice cream sundae no?

guys. you are too sweet. actually you’re almost as sweet as my workout this morning. but we’ll get back to that.
thank you so much for all of your bloggie birthday wishes. julie golean would fo sho not be able to exist without you wondies. (if you haven’t caught on already i like to create my own words)
julie’s dictionary. “wondies” = wonderful bloggies.
after heading back and forth to my new internship/job place yesterday i came home to reorganize my closet and realize that the last time i got my professional dress on was about a year ago when i was 2 sizes bigger. no complaints there but i needed new dress pants!
so i gathered my thoughts, filled my tummy and did the next thing anyone would do..
i immediately called my stylist aka deej & jen to accompany me to where else? target for wallet friendly dress pants and work attire. i’m pretty sure nike shorts and a sports bra wouldn’t even qualify for casual fridays.
only to be reminded of why in the world its so hard for me to find pants. tall pants people. tall pants. so target ended up being a bust other then restocking my gum stash and picking up a new container of hidden valley ranch seasoning.
next on my list of priorities? food duh
so as soon as we got home, deej and i got to work. she ransackled the house in search of our missing chopper, while i got my special salad making skillz on.
what we came up with was gloriously delicious and oh-so easy. besides the search of the missing chopper. $5 to anyone who finds it..
a wonkin sized salad with sauteed tilapia fillet, laughing cow, tjs mustard, 1tbsp garlic hummus, a little apple cider vinegar for spreadage & a side of butternut squash soup
a night without greens is no night at all.
i concluded the night early and no clue who went home on the biggest loser because this season is just honestly bothering me.
when i woke up this morning i knew that i had to get something in my system before spin. the two slices of bread and better n peanut butter didn’t work out so hot last time so i dabbled with something different this morning.
how i felt eating something at 5:20am..don’t you dare judge. ;)
and then i spun into the sunset.
surprise! the gym got new spin bikes! woop woop. they were fabo. and this pre workout snack fab-O.
- stability ball pushups 4 sets 12 (bodyweight) superseded with bodybar skullcrusher 4 sets 12 (15lb bodybar
- decline chest flys 4 sets 12 (10lb free weights) superseded with decline chest press 4 sets 12 (15lb free weights)
- tricep pushbacks 4 sets 12 (30lb barbell)
- high chest press machine 4 sets 12 (20lbs, 30lbs, 30lbs, 20lbs) while holding my knees up to challenge my core
i felt like a beast when i was done. came home shaw shawered fast and hit the food processor hard for breakfast.
1cup pumpkin+1/2c cottage cheese, cinnamon, stevia, splashie of almond milk & vanilla extract all processed up. sliced 1/2 naner & 2tbsp of pb2 drizzleage.
successfully consumed my weight in canned pumpkin. what shortage…?
then i proceeded to dish out $87 bucks for a finger printing appointment. the only thing i have a criminal record for is not carrying a license for these guns
how i felt when i realized that getting my roots done is going to have to wait another month?

alright well i’ve got plenty on the agenda for today. finger printing, work, finishing organizing my room. i’m nervous to start my new job next week! it’s gonna require a large schedule change but i think it will be worth it in the end.

any of you ever dress & shower at the gym for work? i’ve got a 45+minute commute 3 days a week to work coming up so any good tips you could share would be muchos appreciated!

happy one year to me!
that’s right. it’s the official first birthday of julie golean!
one year ago today i sat in my living room brainstorming with the bestie of what a good name for a “food blog” would be. what’s a food blog asked everyone. well..i didn’t know. i just knew that i loved food, i loved being healthy and i wanted scratch that needed a place to connect to others that had the same passion for food, fitness, & fun.
and here i am.
want a good laugh? check out my first post..if you need anymore validation that i’m a popcorn monster. well you’ll find humor in the fact that that’s the title of the first post.
i remember taking my first picture of food. i was making an omlette. deej & jenna thought i was a ridiculous creep. i stood by it. kept trucking, snapping shots. then newman’s own came to my door. and when the golean’s opened that box, well jaws dropped and julie golean was finally taken a little more serious.
this year i’ve found my happy place with food, started my first job out of college, left my first job out of college, started a new journey with graduate school, turned 23, learned to love running, ran my first 10k, signed up for a marathon, injured my hip, didn’t run a marathon, experimented with food & most importantly finally settled into a happy relationship with myself.
this year has been crazed. and i’m so proud of how far i’ve come in a year, how my picture taking skillz have vastly improved and most importantly the relationships i’ve formed with fellow bloggies. you guys. my friends and my foodie soulmates ;) withouth you guys i wouldn’t have found oatmeal, or cottage cheese, or green monsters & greek yogurt. i wouldn’t have discovered a love for oat bran, & almond butter, pb2, stacking snackplates & all things fiberific..
i guess what i’m
dying trying to say is that i love this community, you guys and how blogging as changed who i am and who i want to be. so thank you for that. thank you for reading, and laughing when things aren’t funny, for putting up with my sass, and my wit and listening to me complain all the time from time to time.
so here’s to another year of us hanging out, chatting it up & bowls and bowls and bowls of my beloved popcorn.
now that it’s been an official year of blogging i’m thinking of doing a few q&a posts. so with that ask away! is there anything your dying to know about my life, my workouts, my food, me?! if not well then there goes that idea. haha

why hello lovlies!
what’s not so lovely today? well besides the jets not making it to the superbowl, the weather isn’t exactly up to par neither (thank the lord i’m not an english major). i almost got knocked over by the wind and rain getting in my car at work before. that would have been one for the books. but hey i’ll take rain over snow anyday.
you guys are so smart all getting yesterday’s puzzle and all. i thought i would have had you tricked ;)
while i watched my jets do so well and then not so well i took mental breaks and threw together a post of chili.
chopping veggies is the ultimate stress reliever. let’s start giving out pairing knives instead of stress balls right?
and so my decadent dinner involved a bowl of hungry girl’s dan good chili with extra lean turkey added in to the recipe & a dollop of greek yogurt on top, a side salad & some lettuce wraps to roll up my chili in. because das how i do yo.
later on post game i drowned my sorrows in a bucket of love. otherwise known as popcorn.
i was angry the second football game went into overtime because it put off my bedtime by about a half hour.
none the less i woke up this morning gearing and ready to head out to 6am spin. i tried something new for a change and had a little bit of snack before the class. last week i was feeling no maximized to lift weights post spin so i took gina’s advice and munched a little something before heading out the door.
2 slices of arnolds reduced calorie bread with 1tsp better n peanut butter on each slice.
spin kicked my butt. in a major way. i wanted to cry for help. i spinned on.
then i threw some weights around. back&biceps
- barbell bicep curl 4 sets 10 (30lb barbell) superseded with dumbbell pullover 4 sets 12 (20lb dumbbell)
- outward dumbbell curls 4 sets 12 (10lb free weights) superseded with bent over reverse rows 4 sets 12 (30lb barbell)

stretch and peaced outta that biotch
to be honest the pre workout snack made me feel really nauseous during spin! and it didn’t make me feel any stronger during my weight lifting. maybe i should try something different?
anyways! i left the gym, drove through the monsoon, into the swirly whirly gumdrop forrest, monsooned myself in the shower and then proceeded to stand in my kitchen for about 5-10 minutes deciding what in the world i wanted to eat for breakfast.
i went with a whippalicious treat.
whipped pumpkin pie ala mode well almost
in the food processor went: 1/2c canned pumpkin, 1/2c cottage cheese, 1tbsp eas vanilla whey, cinnamon, splenda & vanilla extract. topped it off with 1/2 sliced banana & 2tbsp pb2.
after that? oh bring on the good news.
i went to work, drowned in water & came home to mange lunch while beaming with the glory that my life is about to get really busy and really awesome.
cottage cheese for breakfast and lunch?
you bet i did.

remember that interview i went on? yes that one. well. i got the job! i’m going to be interning at a local college doing exactly what i want to do! i’m very excited and very happy. yes it’s going to be a horrendous commute driving and all, and with school and what not i’m going to be a busy lady but ya gotta do what ya gotta do right! this means i’m going to have to wake up even earlier for the gym which is not going to pretty but no workout means unhappy camper here. i’ll keep you guys posted no worries!
in other news tomorrow is my one year anniversary for blogging! woop woop :)
it’s a crazy week i tell ya.

4 bleacher runs - (up bleacher stairs, down bleacher stairs throughout the whole bleacher) repeat 4 times
bleacher stepups (30 seconds right leg, 30 seconds left leg) alternating with assisted pushups (1 minute) repeat 3 times
4 bleacher runs same as first 4
1 lap jog (slower pace)
1 lap run the lengths, fast walk the shorts
