so many good eats. so little time…
haha. is that even true? well the first part is. but the second? meh! i guess i have time. i’d just much rather be reading about what your eating..
i don’t really feel like talking about food. so let’s talk about something else shall we?
don’t worry i’ll share my glorious food pictures throughout this conversation
don’t be worried. it’s nothing serious. just something precious i noticed today.
1/2c cottage cheese, 1.5c wheat puffs, 1/2 pear, 1tbsp maranatha no stir creamy pbuttz, 1/2tbsp no shoogs added smuckers strawberry jelly
so this story has nothing and i repeat nothing to do with food blogging.
amaze-a-balls egg white salad
5 egg whites + 1/4c cottage cheese, 1/4c chickpeas all egg saladed up with hidden valley ranch seasoning and spicy dijon mustard.
shroom sammies galore.
but this morning i got to work in about 10 seconds flat. literally it took me 20 minutes to get to work today. i left myself an hour and a half to get to work. so after dilly dallying around brooklyn trying my hardest to find a dunkin donuts and successfully not being able to, i found myself in the cafeteria with 45 minutes to spare before i was on the clock.
so i find myself sitting in the abandoned school cafeteria me, myself, my blackberry & my ooey-gooey cookie dough yoatgurt plus optimum whey cookies & cream
sucky flavor protein powder along with a gawjuss view of the sheepshead bay & my thoughts
…which can be dangerous might i add.
i look up and see this old man sit down with a newspaper at a table about 10 feet from me. he has a banana and looks lonely but peaceful.
i smile a little because i think about how he woke up that morning and thought to himself “why don’t i go to the local community college and read my newspaper and eat my banana in their cafeteria..”
i dive back into my blackberry emails and thick-a-licious breakfast
rocco dispirito’s black bean brownies. amaze. not as good as the cookies but totes up there
about 3 minutes later an older woman waddles over all dressed to the nines with her sunday shoes, lipstick on, and “cawfee for two”
i smile again and think to myself “um i don’t understand how someone can eat just a banana and coffee for breakfast”
i look back down.
the old lady says “do you wanna play?”
i look up. and the older woman whips out a deck of cards and starts dealing out to her and her older gentleman friend who i’m assuming is her husband of probably 75 years
vanilla protein ice cream with 2 tsp of unsweetened cocoa powder & black bean brownie crumbles
and on a wednesday morning at 8:15am this sweet older couple starts their day in a college cafeteria with coffee, bananas, & a game of gin rummy.
and i couldn’t help but smile really big and creepy and think to myself that i hope some day i find someone who still at the ripe age of 70+ wants to sit in a college cafeteria, read the newspaper, enjoy breakfast (preferably something more then a banana and coffee) and play cards with me, and to be in love the same way in that moment that we were the first time we read newspapers, ate breakfast and played gin rummy
…of course i’d have to learn how to play gin rummy before then.
but you get the point.
egg white scrambs. 2/3c liquid egg whites + 3 egg whites, spices galore (chili, garlic, cumin, & curry), steamed with ridic amounts of veggies, nutritional yeast & laughing cow to top it awwwf.
i’m not saying i’m in any rush, because i’m so not. i’m only 23. i like being single, i like focusing on me and i know that good things come to those who wait
but seeing this couple this morning gave me hope, that somewhere among all of the slick back haired, fist pumping, tribal tattoo-ed sporting douche-waffles there are out there, that there is someone out there for me who can rock the five o’.clock, preferably be tall enough for me to sport heels, be my workout buddy, make me laugh & accept my serious obsession for cottage cheese and popcorn.
…i guess we’ll have to wait and see ;)
until then i’ll enjoy my popcorn bowl for one.
question! do you have a love story you’d like to share with me!?
