a hotel gym workout

before i go into the details of my lovely weekend away with my lady friends, i thought because this is supposed to be fitness-ish blog i wanted to share with you the killer workout i did this morning in the hotel gym

usually hotel gyms are pretty sparse in what they have, this one at the old saybrook inn & spa wasn’t too shabby!

i was up early, grabbed a quick snack to fuel me through the workout, and left my 3 girlfriends in a dark hotel room sleeping, to go downstairs and get schweaty

i hadn’t scoped out the scene just yet so i wasn’t sure what to expect.

in preparation of the unknown i scribbled down this workout i found online at men’s health

it’s called the spartacus workout 2.0

pretty badass sounding, no?

normally if i were home, my shouders & HIIT workout from my plan from tara would be on the schedule, but because i was unsure of ‘the situation’ i found something that really only involved your body, & some dumbbells, which i figured they must have

turns out? dumbbells they did have!

here’s what i did:

each exercise for 40 seconds of work then 20 seconds of rest. i completed the circuit twice through (setting my interval timer app) then i did 10 minutes of sprints on the treadmill and completed the circuit twice through again to finish off with HIIT of 1 minute on, 30 seconds off on the rower yes the rower

circuits went like this:

  • dumbbell hang pull (20lb dumbbells)
  • off set dumbbell reverse lunge (25lb dumbbell) <--- 2 circuits because it was left leg then right leg
  • single arm kettlebell (or dumbbell) swing (25lb dumbbell) <--- 2 circuits (right arm then left)
  • squat press (20lb dumbbells)
  • single arm single leg row (25lb dumbbell) <--- 2 circuits (right leg then left leg/arm)

each ‘set’ was 8 sets so a total of 16 minutes for the first go-round

then 10 minutes of HIIT.

second set was a lot harder but really great. another 16 minutes of circuits

and then 10 minutes of HIIT on the row machine (which i thought was pretty cool that they had)

was it a good workout?

balls. it was a great workout. probably the best ‘hotel’ workout i’ve ever had and you could really do it anywhere as long as you have some dumbbells!

i left a sweaty mess

its time for brunch! word ‘round town is it’s a pretty epic brunch spread

don’t mind if i do!

  3. Wow, I think I'm going to name my workout tomorrow "Spartacus" just because it sounds more badass than LiveFit! Hehe. LOVE this circuit/HIIT combination. And I bet it flew by because you were constantly switching things up!

Hope brunch was just as amazing as they said, and that you had a fab weekend away with the ladies! xoxoxo

  5. That hotel gym really SI impressive! It's huge! MOst of the hotels I get stuck in when I have to travel have the crappiest gyms, so I end up using the treadmill and just doing an hour long power walk. Yep, that's my "go-to" workout! I swing my arms a lot too :)

  8. Love your share and awesome workout! Next time you find yourself at a gym with no dumbbells and only 15 minutes to workout, check out a great one here, no equipment needed. Only a 5x5 space available? Perfect! And just a few minutes to get it in? No problem!

  9. Thanks for sharing! I'm always searching for new HIIT/circuits to incorporate in my classes. My go-to w/o is always treadmill full incline walk/runs 4.0-6.5 and tons of plyos w/ push-ups varities thrown in the mix.
