vacations are amazing
vacations are amazing, because sometimes you don’t even realize you need a vacation until you’re actually on vacation
and while this weekend’s vacation wasn’t necessarily a ‘vacation’ and more of a weekend escape
escapes are just as fabulous
especially when you’re with your gal pals
everyone loves the standard vampire eye glare don’t they..
anyways.
friday after work i got my butt to grand central (where may i add is where all the good looking people roll)
i will repeat again. all of the good looking people are riding metro north to connecticut.
i figured out my problem. i live on long island (duh) and all of the non good looking people are going to long island and new jersey (penn station)
i need to go to connecticut more often (or just scope out men in grand central)
we took a 3-hour metro north ride and found ourselves at the old saybrook inn & spa
lizaaaaaaaaaadies weekend!
what was on the menu for the weekend?
ab-so-lute-ly nothing
we just wanted to get away, relax, have some chill time and just not be on long island
so we found a great deal for a weekend stay at this hotel and enjoyed some relaxing and lovely time together and in front of our room fireplace
not to mention the delicious food
operation eat fresh seafood whenever and wherever possible was in progress
our three best meals were:
friday night dinner at otter cove restaurant and bar
we didn’t get there until pretty super late so we pretty much had the entire joint to ourselves.
our waitress ‘kind of’ loved us and we ‘kind of’ loved their food & drink (aka really did)
give me that fresh crab meat in a martini glass
and for my entree i had the grilled salmon salad with some sort of delicious dressing
my goal for the weekend was to eat AS MUCH seafood as i could possibly handle and make sure to pair and sample each cocktail sauce i could get my dirty pawz on
saturday we slept in like lazy ladies & eventually rendezvous-ed for a early afternoon lunch
i enjoyed some cafe ala the room & a quick bowl of oatmeal while the ladies continued to sleep & got ready
gotta keep up to date with my klassy new york news
balcony shotz
& check out our ultra chic view from our ultra chic balcony
it wasn’t hard to continue operation seafood when we found ourselves at the infamous down ‘n dirty seafood joint lenny & joe’s fish tale on saturday for lunch
this place screamed fresh seafood and i about peed my pants with joy when this ENORMOUS plate of fresh crab was presented in front of my face
honestly, i would drive all the way back to connecticut just for this restaurant.
it was le-GIT.
after lunch on saturday we decided to take the 30 minute drive and explore the old mistik village
we found a dunkin donuts (because we’re from new york and we have dunkin radars), grabbed some hot beverages and happened to find ourselves in a tiny village of shops among a plethora of people in the tiny village, shop hopping and chowder tasting
literally.
there was a chowder contest going on. i kid you not. every shopped reeked of chowder and connecticut people are serious about their chowds
among other things…
i did find two quite life changing products though
none other than coffee and vinegar
not together. but potentially not a bad idea?
the village beanery stole my money & my heart when i laid my eyes on their nutty monkey infused coffee
![]()
you better believe i went home with a bag of that shit. if you can’t see, it’s almond, pecan, hazelnut & macadamia blended with banana cream
did someone say coffee orgasm?
as if the coffee wasn’t enough, my heart & money was stolen right from my wallet again when my lips came across this little specialty store extra virgin where they had a ridiculous amount of specialty infused oils and vinegars and you could taste all of the different flavors
my heart was complete when my lips came across this baby
that’s right. d’anjour pear infused vinegar. i don’t even know how to say the first word but it’s ridiculously amazing
i’m not kidding when i tell you it’s life changing
i marinated chicken breasts in it last night and i died and went to vinegar heaven
saturday night involved and all inclusive night of snuggies, snuggling, at home spa treatments and dare i say sleep?
after an awesome sunday workout we ended our lovely trip with a beastly brunch buffet at the hotel’s restaurant fresh salt
mission: coffee & road warrior fuel
i had this plate times a million. operation shrimp at breakfast complete
it’s never too early for peel and eat shramps right?
it was a lovely weekend and just what the doctor ordered
something i never knew i needed was just a break. i came back feeling refreshed, revived and ready for the week
sometimes it’s just good to get away. it makes you realize how unimportant some of the things in life you think are important are really not. mainly because while you’re away you just can’t or don’t have to deal with them
i sense a vacation itch coming on again. now i just have to figure out my next stop!
love to love you <3

cawfee tawk! what/where was the last getaway you were on?
Aww looks like you had so much fun! I've never gone on a girl's weekend...terrible, I know! One day :)
ReplyDeleteYour girlfriend getaway looks like so much fun! And actually a lot similar to mine! Reading in bed with robes + dinner out... best kind of vacay. Glad you got a break, lady! You've been super busy for the last few years. You deserve it!
ReplyDeleteAHhhhh....I SO badly need a weekend away!! This looks so decadent!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I can't wait for a girls weekend in May with Blend Retreat! I wish I could have one sooner, but with moving and such its going to be crazy over here!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had a wonderful time with your friends! <3
SO fabulous! Crab is amazeballs. I want to eat it every day. On top of a monster salad. That mug is super cute- I need. Glad you had fun. Uhhh- away? Hmmm hmmm....
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome trip! :) I've never been to the ocean/coast/whatever you want to call it. I have seafood envy. lol. PS--please send me some of that coffee!
ReplyDeleteI want some CHOWDA! I's so jealous. I really just want to take a trip to the east coast and peruse the restaurants, up and down the coast. And of course, hit up some of the famous breweries.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I can't even think of the last getaway I had. Isn't that pathetic?! I'm going to Chicago in June though, and I can't WAIT!
Looks like an awesome trip!!!! Man i want some seafood like DAT.
ReplyDeleteomg so much to say!!
ReplyDelete1. my phone gives me the vampire look often. i'm starting to like it. 2. do hot men hang out in central station? ok next time i go, i'll just stay there. 3. grilled salmon is my favorite! 4. PEAR VINEGAR???? 5. no, it is never too early for shrimp. love those little prawns.
I am from CT and grew up in the town called Madison-about 15 min from Old Saybrook-the other Lenny & Joes restaurant is in my town and is so much fun to go to in the summer when you can sit outside!! Old Saybrook and Mystic are super cute! Glad you enjoyed a getaway to CT!
ReplyDeletePecan, hazelnut, macadamia and banana cream coffee?! Oh. My. Gaaaawd. Meet me in Connecticut manana, mama? I'm SO there.
ReplyDeleteAll the fresh seafood in this post is making me drool! So not ladylike. But I can't help myself...I looove fresh crab, but rarely ever have it because 1 oz costs about $50 dollars. I need to get a better job (aka stop being a student) so that I can eat delicious things like this (and pear vinegar!).
Did you get your hands on guacamole this afternoon? And let me know when you venture to Chipotle! xoxoxo
So fun! I am living through other people's vacations right now. I can't even recall my last one, lol. I want ALL that coffee.
