the good, the bad, the ugly & the delicious

the good

the golf outing went off with a hit!

i put on my best ‘country club – wannabe golfer’ day attire and headed out for a glorious yet exhausting day-evening of work

IMG_4123[1]

usually post event wrap up is just as much work as getting ready for the event. so things at work haven’t really died down persay

but between you, me & the tree – tuesday is kicking off an entire week off for me – or really just wednesday through monday.

woo!

the bad

the bad?

i lied to you.

i didn’t submit an interview video on time

image

don’t judge me.

things got busy at work. i froze on spot. i couldn’t think of something to do with a minute. and then i just didn’t make a tape.

so i won’t be working side by side with kelly

i’m sorry i lied. do you still love me?

the ugly

my face.

no literally. my face.

my eyes are freaking out. they’ve been bloodshot for a couple of days now. i thought i might have burst a blood vessel with the stress leading up to the event

but now i think it’s just allergies – literally i look stoned 24-7. the worst part? my glasses broke in half so if i want to see i have to wear my contacts.

oy.

the delicious

Home

after a great heavy leg & incline walking workout i was ready to refuel with a p28 bagel. i topped one side with apricot jam, the other with peanut flour spread & had some egg whites with cinnamon on the side

IMG_4133[1]

as you can see the ingredient list is a bit long and interesting but they are tasty and i really do love the fact that you can have a bagel with 30 grams of protein just infused right in!

image

i try to limit fats post workout but i can’t wait to have one of these babies with some sunflower seed or peanut butter slathered on top!

image image

verdict? deliciousness. i also love the little oat sprinkles on the bagel!

IMG_4132[1]

thanks p28 for making my morning just dandy!

well i’m exhausted! i had a fun day today – will give you the deets tomorrow!

love to love you <3

#grillqueen & destressing

hello? knock knock..

i know. i know but work has been so busy!

this upcoming tuesday is our second big fundraising event of the year at work

…a bum bum buuum…. golf outing!

we’ve been crazy at the office – logging in 10-12 hour days most days of the week

so the thought of even opening a computer when i get home or even thinking about reading a blog – is pretty much unimaginable

i had to escape this weekend

friday i worked until approximately 9pm and then high-tailed it out east with my lizadies to escape ala greenport

it was much needed

this weekend was filled to the max with sunshine, sleep, grilling, relaxation, walks through downtown greenport, unsweetened iced tea, chit-chat, sleep & more sleep

IMG_4084[1]IMG_4088[1]

IMG_4089[1]IMG_4090[1]

basically anything that’s not related to golf or work

IMG_4083[1]IMG_4092[1]

IMG_4096[1]IMG_4100[1]

the summer is the best – i am making it public and announcing to the world that I AM THE GRILL QUEEN.

IMG_4105[1]

saturday night we made a fan-freaking delicious grilled feast

we started off by marinating chicken breasts in fresh orange juice, orange rinds, sesame oil & TJs african smoke spice --- left in the fridge for the day (probably about 5-6 hours)

IMG_4102[1]

we also picked up some little neck clams to throw on the barbie too – which are the easiest and most delicious things to make on the planet. throw on the barbs for about 3-5 minutes until they open up! serve with lemon juice & cocktail sauce and you’re good to go

IMG_4106[1]

a feast for 4 chicks – i packed my plate with chicken breast, barbequed sweet potato moons, & little necks all with a side salad of roasted broccoli & fresh farm spinach (topped with grey poupon)

#grillqueen is my new favorite hastag – oh werrrrd

IMG_4110[1]IMG_4109[1]

please pass the grey poupon!

IMG_4107[1]

i never realize it but when things get stressful at work my body starts to feel it too in a major way

my shoulders feel like the weight of the world is on them – i consistently feel over-tired – my left eye even starts to get bloodshot -- and i never realize that i’m overdoing it until my body collapses on friday night with exhaustion

this weekend was a nice break from the stress and i managed to get two solid workouts in – that left me feeling energized and ready to take on the week

something new i’ve done in the workout spectrum of things is sign up for jillfit lifestyle online – its $10/month and i’ve been in love with it so far

image

her workouts are great, fast & fun – incorporating weights & cardio in a quick metabolism boosting variety

she sends you emails throughout the week – a recipe, a new workout & a motivational tip – there’s also a members only facebook page which is a great source of information because the jillfit coaches are consistenly answering your questions & posting tips/fun things

yesterday i did a metabolic chain upper body workout that left me a sweaty beast & finished it off with a 20-minute tempo run

today i headed down to the track for a nice & quick sprints workout

you know i always get workout ADD and so far i’m loving this!

she also provides workouts for non-gym goers/people who don’t have access to a gym – which i always think is a great source to have!

i’m still working on my kelly ripa cohost video – to be blatantly honest i’m so unsure of what to do – and time is ticking! BAH!

well i better get to it!

got lots of errands to get done today

i will probably be ‘off the map’ until the later part of this week – but i’m ready more than ever for things to destress at work and for me to get sanity back in my left eye!

…is it wednesday yet?

love to love you <3

shelter island to the fourth power

good morning!

those of you that have known me for the past three years may or may not know about our yearly june tradition

why kill the tradition no?

every year for the past three years deej & i have hot footed over the peconic bay and take a waltz around shelter island in the annual 10k run/ 5k walk

year one

image

year two

image

year three

image

year four (this year)

IMG_4057[1]

our walking posse expanded!

clearly we do not do the run

i’m not even sure if we do the walk…

they should actually think about renaming this specifically for us goleaners

to be the shelter island annual 5k stroll

we all prepped for the walk in different ways

deej told siri to call me a bitch

IMG_4023[1]

jenna carbed & caffeinated up with a 62oz-er of coffee

IMG_4026[1]

and i fueled properly for the race with oat pancakes, big egg white & avocado bowls & extra large unsweetened iced teas

IMG_4025[1]IMG_4028[1]IMG_4027[1]

obviously i was the most prepared.

ride’s here!

IMG_4031[1]

powernapped, fitmixer-ed up…we were ready to go

IMG_4033[1]IMG_4034[1]IMG_4035[1]

what’s the trend here? that jenna is always ready for the camera.

IMG_4037[1]IMG_4038[1]IMG_4040[1]

IMG_4039[1]IMG_4041[1]IMG_4042[1]

we took the 5 minute ferry ride from greenport harbor to shelter island harbor. then from there as the tradition follows we pile onto the yellow limo & head up VIP style to check in at registration

IMG_4044[1]

riding in style. obviously we choose the limo on the right

deej updating her facebook status. “checked in” the chic yellow limo du jour!”

IMG_4052[1]

we on the other hand played miss mary mack on the back of the bus seats. how mature of us.

IMG_4050[1]IMG_4049[1]IMG_4048[1]

we timed it perfectly this year.

in the past we’ve had to sit around for hours waiting and waiting and waiting for the race to start

IMG_4056[1]IMG_4053[1]

they brand the walkers in yellow. it means ‘SLOW DOWN FOR THE RUNNERS!’

this time we got there, registered, waited on the 100 person porter potty line, the 10k-ers lined up, the professional racers started (and probably finished) and then the lined up the 5k walkers about 15 minutes later to hear our horn blow

and we were off!

immediately i turned on my fitradio app and got the party started

the race is super fun. it does feel kind of long. but we make it find by requesting brewskies from the sideline cheerers, dancing to fitradio & scoping out the hottie police officers

the end of the race is the worst part because it’s when the walkers & the runners meet.

there we are with our barely  misty glow as we meet up with the final mile of the runners who look like they want to puke

deej & our neighbor were speed demons there year and managed to finish about 5 minutes ahead of us

IMG_4064[1]

they snapped pics as we gloriously crossed the finish line & retrieved our medals

IMG_4062[1]

when the race was complete we curbbed it, waited for the yellow limo and made our way  back to our island

IMG_4058[1]

the glorious sunset ride on the ferry ride back

IMG_4063[1]

my ladies!

next year we’re definitely doing the run.

5 years the charm no?

love to love you <3

-julie

cawfee tawk! do you have any yearly traditions like this that you look forward to each year?
