hey friends! this weekend has been super fun filled to the max with friends, family, fitness & food – aren’t those always the best?
something that sucks about getting older is the fact that you and your girlfriends have lots of other things going on in their lives – we get older – boys, husbands, jobs, family obligations, kids, and other random things tend to come up and it gets harder and harder to get your solid group of girlfriends together on a frequent basis
some of the ladies & me through the years – don’t you love our ‘it’s better in the hamptons’ urban outfitter t-shirts that we sported for our post-prom after party? we thought we were the coolest kids around – renting a house in the hamptons for 2 days and guzzling beers like they were going out of style
those were the good old days
last night one of the girls in my group of besties hosted a post-holiday girls night – her and her husband just bought a beautiful home – and we pretty much demanded that she have a holiday party there
we decided to make it appetizers & dessert pot-luck so everyone brought a dessert & an appetizer.
there was SO much food – probably a little overboard for 6 girls
i went for it and brought bacon & guacamole bites for an appetizer
i used trader joe’s turkey bacon & trader joe’s spicy guacamole – i tried it with regular bacon at first but it wasn’t easy to cut and get into good squares – turkey bacon worked out beautifully – and they were a huge hit!
for dessert i brought paleo chocolate chunk cookies
they were delicious – not on the sweet side at all – for the chocolate chunks i chopped up two bars of chocolate (a salted peanut crunch and a dark chocolate bar from the chocolate room in brooklyn) the chthat i had chillin’ in my freezer (yes i keep my chocolate in the freezer – it tastes best that way!)
we hung out, girl chatted, ate lots of delicious food, drank some wine & punch – and played cards against humanity which is hilarious & the politically incorrect version of apples to apples.
husband eating appetizers – he identified the trader joe’s guacamole in 2 seconds flat.
typical friend picture progression. seated to standing – obviously. anyone else battle for the non-end positions in pictures…?
love girls night.
love to love you <3

cawfee tawk! do you have girls night with your lady friends? do you have a good solid group of girlfriends – how often do you see them?
Love this! Way to make girls night Paleo!
ReplyDeleteYou guys look like you had a blast! Good friends, fun games, and bacon...what more could someone ask for? Can I come over next girls' night??? :D
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh- I love that picture of you funneling! Thats fantastic. Made my day. What a fun night. I'm going to check out that cookie recipe- intrigued. Glad you ladies had fun! I have a bundle of good friends- some that live close, some that live far! I usually catch up with the closer ones through coffee dates or dinners with our spouses. Not a lot of girls nights only. Totally should have one though
ReplyDeleteYum! Those bacon & guac bites look amazing! Glad you gals were able to have a fun girls' night! Since graduating from college and moving out of state, my girlfriends are all over the country. It's a bummer and I miss them so much! I'm looking forward to another wedding or something in the near future so we can see each other again.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad, but true, each year my friends and I grow further and further apart. Each time a wedding or a baby comes, we all get together. That's life now! Crazy.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you and your friends had a wonderful time. The bacon and guacamole bites look AMAZING. Great idea Julie! It's a "healthy" indulgence :) I love those.
Hold up! There's a politically incorrect version of Apples to Apples?! Get outta town! I need this game in my life. Apples to Apples was my go-to game in college, but I haven't played in years. This sounds a million times better.
ReplyDeleteI love that you made the guacamole bacon bites! I see them pop up on Pinterest from time to time, but now that an actual friend has given them a stamp of approval, I better make them a reality in my kitchen. What's not to love about bacon + guacamole?
So glad you had a fun night with the girls! xoxo
