so i’ve been on a MAYJ smoothie kick lately
i’ve also been on a mayj ‘mayj’ kick lately
i think it has to do with the fact that i’m obsessed with rachel zoe. and brad. and the dukes of melrose
smoothies? i can’t get enough
and they’ve just been so good post crossfit
after a beastly workout – and i have about 30 minutes to shower, get dressed & get to work – hitting the blender and chugging down a smoothie on the way to the train station has just been the easiest thing to do!
for the past year i’ve steered away from whey protein powders because they just started to not sit in my stomach in a good way at all
think – on my kitchen floor in fetal position – in pain
but this past week i received a few samples of formulx grass-fed all natural whey protein powder
i went out on a whim and decided to give it a try – hoping that they fact that it was grass fed & all natural would keep the tummy woes away
thursday morning’s WOD = ‘kettle-hell’
literally it was. hell AND there were two parts
then 3 rounds:
20 kettlebell swings (35lbs)
20 kettlebell sdhp (sumo deadlight high pulls)
20 kettlebell lunges (10 each leg – holding kb in rack position)
i can’t remember how long it took me – but it took me a long time. burpees are hell.
i hate burpees.
i kind of wish i read this article about how to make burpees easier for big people before the workout – but i didn’t
part II – after recovering and in the class time remaining
press – push press – jerk combo
build to the largest load you can to handle while performing the reps WITHOUT putting the bar down between movements
2 presses – 4 push presses – 6 jerks
i did this combo maxing at 58lbs – i just can’t strict press anything else – and i was SUPER tired.

thursday morning after climbing the power clean & sumo deadlift high pull ladder i came home and made myself a glorious post workout smoothie
blueberry & coconut protein smoothie
- 1/2 cup vanilla almond milk
- 1.5 cups water
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 single serving formulx grass-fed whey protein in vanilla
- 1T coconut butter
- 1/4 avocado
- ice & a big handful of spinach
mix in a blender and leave in the fridge (while you get ready for work) pour into a glass and prepare for a serious brain freeze
the taste of formulx was LEGIT delicious. it tasted so fresh – so clean – you know when you get that artificial grossy tasting feeling from protein power?
well it was pretty much the exact opposite drinking this
i felt like i was drinking a protein shake directly from a cow
hahaha – sorry i had to!
and i love that the protein has 5g of bcaas for recovery in a serving as well!
but anyways and so then was the test
i waited – waited to find myself in fetal position – waited for the pain
nothing. i had no pain – none.
so i’m SUPER excited about this protein powder – i actually can’t wait to try the chocolate too! hello tomorrow’s post workout smoothie!
